What is a co-signer?

A co-signer takes responsibility for your obligations outlined in your tenancy agreement and is a secondary point of contact for Housing Hand. They play an important role in your application and are jointly liable for repaying Housing Hand if you default on your rent.

Because of this responsibility, it’s essential to fully understand the co-signer requirements before applying.

A co-signer can be based anywhere in the world, but they must have a regular income to be eligible. This can come from part-time or full-time work. They may also be eligible if they receive Universal Credit, PIP, a pension, or Pension Credit. The co-signer is not referenced or credit checked.

It is a requirement to have a co-signer. However, in extreme cases where no co-signer can be found, we can arrange a telephone call to discuss this.
